What is this assistance?

What is this assistance?

This assistance is provided by the State of New Mexico so that homeowners can avoid foreclosure due to financial hardship during the pandemic. It is not a loan and does not have to be repaid.

What can it help pay for?

What can it help pay for?

  • Past due payments, including payments in forbearance.
  • Utility bills
  • Property taxes
  • Home insurance
  • The program can also assist homeowners achieve housing cost affordability through possible decrease in the amount owed on a mortgage or other steps to prevent foreclosure.

What information is needed?

What information is needed?

The following information is needed to apply. We recommend gathering everything before you start your application.

  • Legally issued form of identification such as a driver's license or government-issued identification
  • Documents needed to verify household income such as three recent pay stubs
  • Documentation needed to verify past due amounts, such as a home loan statement or other evidence of housing cost delinquency (e.g. insurance invoice or tax statement).

Depending on the type of assistance you are requesting, additional documentation may be required from you or your loan servicer.

Our mission is to prevent New Mexican homeowners from falling behind on their mortgage, facing foreclosure, having utilities shut off, and displacement. You do not have to repay this assistance.

For homeowners, the funds are distributed through the Homeowner Assistance Fund by the New Mexico Mortgage Finance Authority.
