What is this assistance?

What is this assistance?

This assistance is provided by the State of New Mexico so that renters can avoid eviction during the pandemic. It is not a loan and does not have to be repaid.

  • Past-due, current, and future rent
  • Utility bills
  • Relocation expenses such as first and last month's rent, and security deposit
  • Temporary lodging due to an eviction

Below is what you’ll need to finish the application. We recommend gathering everything before you start your application.

  • Identification (A Social Security number is not required. People without a Social Security number can apply)
  • Current rental lease or statement from landlord
  • Proof of income
  • Proof of past-due bills
  • Utility bills (if applying for utility assistance)
  • Proof of unemployment (optional)
  • Eviction Notice (only required if you are in the eviction process)

  • Request a Paper Application — If you need a paper application to be sent to your home, please click here to fill out a short form so we can send you a paper application.
  • Proof of Zero IncomeUse this form if you currently don’t have any income. Please note that you do not need to have zero income to qualify for this program. This form is only for residents who don’t have income at the time they apply.
  • Absence of Rental Agreement — Form should be used if no written lease exists AND the landlord cannot/will not confirm the landlord-tenant relationship.
  • Certification of Rent Owed — Form to certify the amount of rent you owe.
  • Attestation Form for Rent Help — If you don’t have proof of a rental agreement, you can use this form to certify your identity, address, and landlord.
  • Attestation Form for Utility Help — If you don’t have proof of being behind on your utility payments, you can use this form to certify your identity, address, and utility provider.
  • Detailed Appeals Process — Applicants who believe their application was wrongfully denied or wrongly awarded have the right to appeal the decision. The request for appeal and the appeals narrative forms must be completed and submitted within 45 calendar days from the date of the decision.
  • Request for Appeal — Complete this request for appeals form in its entirety. Any documents related to and supporting the appeal must be attached to the appeal application for further review.
  • Appeals Narrative — The narrative form will briefly describe the reason for the appeal and serve as the cover sheet to the Request for Appeal.
